Radon Control:

Radon is a naturally occurring colorless/odorless gas that enters a building that is in contact with the ground. Radon occurs by the decay of Uranium present in rock and soil. Local geology under and adjacent to buildings allows the Radon gas to migrate through foundations, cracks, and small openings to enter any structure in contact with the soil.
Free Radon Test Kits:
The Ohio Department of Health offers FREE radon test kits to Ohio homeowners through a grant from the EPA. To order a FREE Radon test kit, CLICK HERE.
The FREE test kit is easy to use.
-
Place test kit in lowest level of your home that you spend the most time in.
-
Leave the kit in place for three to seven days.
-
Remove and discard the sponge from the kit. Seal the bag and mail to the testing company.
-
Your results will be mailed to you in about two weeks. The ODH also receives the results so that radon levels around the state can be tracked and monitored.
If your home has Radon levels over 4 picocuries per liter, mitigation is recommended. Mitigation costs can be several hundred dollars or more, but it is important for the health of your family as exposure to Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer.
The local radon abating company is Erie Environmental which can be reached at (419)-359-8682.
